How do you transition a CDM registered carbon project to Gold Standard?

CDM registered projects can transition to register under GS4GG following requirements presented in the Gold Standard’s “GHG Emission reduction & Sequestration Product Requirements."

a. To start, project Developers must fill out the Transition Request form which is to be used by all GS CDM/VER stand-alone projects and PoAs, Micro Scale stand-alone projects and Micro PoAs . The document can be found here.
b. The Transition Request form and guidelines are only applicable to projects that are eligible under existing Gold Standard categories i.e., renewable energy, forestry end-use energy efficiency, or waste handling and disposal.
c. Eligible project/CPA registered with other schemes that have a crediting period start date with original carbon crediting scheme before 01 January 2016 shall demonstrate, at the time of preliminary review ;
       that project faces a serious risk of discontinuation without carbon revenue.
       how the project has been operational in the absence of carbon revenue if carbon credits have not been issued to the project in recent years These projects shall be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
d. All projects that transition to GS4GG shall demonstrate Ongoing Financial Need at the time of renewal of their crediting period, as applicable to all registered GS4GG projects
e. Projects transitioning from CDM must claim emission reductions of a given vintage only once, under one single scheme.
f. According to a new rule update in October 2020, CDM projects wanting to transition to GS no longer have to deregister from CDM unless your project involves Forestry.
g. Project Developers are required to seek from GS:
       Preliminary review
       Validation
       Design Certification
       Verification
       Performance Review
       CP renewal
h. GS4GG Certified Projects that transition will make the updated PDD (if required), Monitoring, Verification Report, and PDD available on the GS Impact Registry.
i. Projects registered with CDM to GS4GG can claim remaining crediting period under GS4GG, but no more than the maximum allowed under relevant GS4GG activity requirements.
j. The FAQ references state that there can be a potential future update to these rules. This means GS will continue to ensure that projects that transition to GS from CDM will be of high quality and they may update the eligibility from time to time or set eligibility limitations such as start date.
